How to Advertise a Cleaning Business

How to advertise a cleaning business in the UK: choose domestic or commercial, then use Google, Facebook, referrals and direct outreach to win clients.

How you advertise a cleaning business depends on who you clean for. Households pick a cleaner they trust in their home. Businesses pick a contractor who is reliable and insured. Decide which you want first, then use the channels that reach them.

Domestic cleaning: trust comes first

People are handing over a key. Your advertising needs to show:

  • That you are insured and that staff are vetted, for example with DBS checks, if they are
  • Reviews from local households
  • Clear prices: hourly rate or a price per clean
  • What is included and what is not

Where to advertise

  • Google Business Profile. Free, and where "cleaner near me" searches go.
  • Local Facebook groups and Nextdoor. Recommendations drive most domestic cleaning work.
  • Google Search ads. "Domestic cleaner [town]", "end of tenancy cleaning [town]", "deep clean service". Keep one-off services in a separate ad group from regular cleaning.
  • Leaflets in the streets where you already have clients.

Specialist one-off cleans

End of tenancy, after-builders, oven and carpet cleaning are searched for by name and have a higher price per job. They suit Google Search ads well, and a good one-off job often becomes a regular client.

Commercial cleaning: go direct

Offices, shops, clinics, schools and communal areas of flats are won by contact, not by adverts.

  • Make a list of local businesses and property managers
  • Email or call the person who arranges cleaning
  • Send a one-page summary: services, insurance, references
  • Offer a site visit and a written quote

Support this with a commercial page on your website and search ads for "office cleaning [town]" and "commercial cleaners [town]".

Work with partners

Letting agents and landlords need end of tenancy cleans every month. Builders need after-build cleans. Estate agents know people moving in and out.

Make your website do its job

  • A page for each service
  • Areas covered
  • Prices or a quick quote form
  • Reviews and insurance details
  • Phone number at the top

Ask for reviews and referrals

Ask after the third clean, when the client has seen you are reliable. Offer a discount on a clean for each referral.

Negative keywords if you run Google Ads

jobs, vacancies, cleaner wanted, hiring, salary, products, supplies, equipment, franchise, course, how to start

"Cleaning jobs" searches are far more common than searches for a cleaner, and they will use up a budget if you do not block them.

Common questions

Can cleaners use Local Services Ads? Check Google's eligibility page for your postcode. The UK list of supported services is limited and changes.

What works fastest? Recommendations in local groups for domestic work, and Search ads for end of tenancy cleaning.
