Landscaping clients choose with their eyes. They want to see gardens like the one they imagine, built by someone local with good reviews. So getting clients is mostly about showing your work in the places people look, at the time of year they are planning.
Decide which work you want
- Design and build: patios, decking, fencing, full garden makeovers. High value, planned weeks ahead.
- Maintenance: mowing, hedges, borders. Lower value, repeat income.
They need different marketing. Do not mix them on one page.
1. Photograph every job
Before, during and after, from the same spot. This is your most useful marketing asset and it costs nothing.
2. Build a portfolio page per service
Patios, driveways, decking, turfing, fencing, garden design. Each page shows finished jobs in named local areas with a short description.
3. Complete your Google Business Profile
Add services, areas and photos. Ask each client for a review that mentions the type of job and the town.
4. Put a board outside every job
Neighbours watch a garden being built for days. A site board with your name and number, and cards through nearby doors, bring enquiries from the same street.
5. Use Facebook and Instagram
Post each finished project. Local Facebook groups regularly ask for landscaper recommendations, so ask clients to tag you.
6. Run Google Search ads
Target searches such as "landscapers [town]", "patio installers near me" and "garden design [town]". Published UK estimates put landscaping clicks at £0.80 to £3. Send each service to its own page.
7. Run Meta ads for larger projects
Show before and after photos to homeowners in the areas where you want to work. Retarget people who visited your portfolio.
8. Work with other trades and designers
Garden designers, builders, architects, estate agents and fencing suppliers all meet people about to spend on a garden.
9. Keep past clients
Offer a maintenance visit after a build. Send a spring message to everyone you have worked for. A second project from a past client costs nothing to win.
Time it to the season
Enquiries for outdoor projects rise from late winter into spring. Have your portfolio, profile and ads ready before then. Use autumn and winter to promote planning and booking for spring.
Qualify enquiries
Ask for photos of the space, the postcode, the work wanted and a budget range before you visit. It saves evenings spent quoting for jobs that were never going to happen.
