Window cleaning advertising works best when it is local and repeated. People need to see your name a few times before they switch cleaner. These twelve ideas keep you visible in the streets you want.
Low cost, close to the round
1. Door cards. Small cards with a price for a typical house and your number. Post them to every house you pass that you do not clean.
2. "Sorry we missed you" cards. When canvassing, leave a card with a price written on it for that house.
3. Van signs. Name, phone, website and "window cleaning" in large letters.
4. Uniform. A polo shirt with your name makes you look established and is noticed by neighbours.
5. Customer referrals. A free clean for every neighbour who signs up.

6. Google Business Profile. Services, areas, photos and reviews. Post once a fortnight.
7. Local Facebook groups. Ask customers to recommend you when someone asks.
8. Nextdoor. Claim your business page and collect recommendations.
9. A simple website. One page with services, prices from a stated figure, areas covered and a quote form.
Paid
10. Google Search ads. "Window cleaner [town]" in a tight set of postcodes. Add negatives such as jobs, round for sale, equipment, poles, supplies and how to.
11. Facebook ads by estate. Target a small radius when opening a new area, with an offer of a price by message.
12. Leaflet drops. A printed leaflet to a new estate, followed by a knock a few days later.
New-build estates
New estates are full of people who have not chosen a window cleaner yet. Get there early with cards and a Facebook post in the estate's community group.
Sell more than windows
Mention gutters, fascias, conservatory roofs and solar panels on everything you print. They bring one-off income and new regular customers.
What to put on any advert
- What you clean
- The area
- A price from a stated figure, or "text for a price"
- How people pay
- Phone number
What not to do
- Advertise across a whole town when you want three estates
- Offer a cheap first clean that attracts people who cancel
- Print leaflets with no way to track them
Track it
Ask every new customer how they heard of you and write it down. After three months you will know which two or three ideas to keep.
Common questions
What is the most effective idea? For most rounds, door cards and canvassing in streets you already clean.
Is paid advertising worth it? In small, tight areas, yes. A regular customer is worth many cleans over the years.
