Local Services Ads put a plumber at the very top of Google, above normal ads, with a Google badge and a call button. You pay per lead. For callout and repair work they are one of the simplest paid channels to set up.
What a plumbing lead costs
Google sets the price by area and job type. UK estimates put plumbing leads at roughly £25 to £45. Your account shows the actual price before you go live. A lead is a phone call or message that comes through the listing.
How to set up
- Go to Google's Local Services Ads sign-up and check plumbing is available for your postcode.
- Enter your business details, service areas and opening hours.
- Choose your job types: for example leak repair, drain clearing, boiler repair, tap and toilet repair.
- Complete verification. Expect to provide business registration details and proof of public liability insurance. If you list gas work, have your Gas Safe registration ready.
- Set a weekly budget.
- Link or collect reviews.
Verification can take days or weeks, so start before you need the leads.
How Google decides who shows
You do not bid on keywords. Ranking depends on:
- How close you are to the customer
- Your review score and number of reviews
- How quickly and how often you answer
- Your opening hours
- Your budget
Five ways to rank higher
- Ask every customer for a review through the LSA review link.
- Answer every call. Missed calls hurt ranking and still cost money.
- Keep hours honest. If you list 24 hours, answer at 3am.
- Keep your budget from running out mid-week.
- Mark leads as booked in the dashboard and archive the bad ones.
How to avoid leads you do not want
Untick job types you do not do. Tighten the service area to where you want to drive. Google reviews leads for spam and wrong-service enquiries and credits invalid ones, but a real customer asking for a small job still counts.
LSAs or Google Ads?
Run both if you can. LSAs are low effort and good for callouts. Google Ads lets you target the higher-value jobs, such as boiler installation and bathrooms, with your own keywords, ad copy and landing page. Compare the two on cost per booked job.
Common questions
Do I need a website? No. The listing stands alone.
Can I pause it? Yes, at any time, which is useful when you are fully booked.
Why am I not showing? Usually verification is not finished, the budget is spent, or you have fewer reviews than nearby plumbers.
