How to Advertise a Window Cleaning Business

How to advertise a window cleaning business in the UK: build a dense round with canvassing, local groups and a Google profile before paying for ads.

A window cleaning business makes money from a round: regular customers close together, cleaned on a schedule. Advertising should fill gaps in the streets you already work, then open new areas one at a time.

Start where you already clean

Your best prospects live next to your customers. They see you there every month.

  • Post a card through the neighbours' doors each time you clean: "We clean number 8 every four weeks. Would you like a price?"
  • Knock, if you are comfortable doing so. Canvassing is still how many rounds are built.
  • Offer a first clean at your normal price with no commitment.

Make it easy to say yes

State the price for a typical house, how often you come, and how people pay. Customers like a text the night before and online payment.

Set up your Google Business Profile

List window cleaning, gutter cleaning, conservatory roof cleaning and fascia cleaning as services. Add your areas and photos. Ask customers for reviews. This is how people find you when they search "window cleaner near me".

Use local Facebook groups and Nextdoor

Requests for window cleaner recommendations appear every week in most local groups. Ask customers to recommend you, and reply quickly when tagged.

Signwrite the van

Name, service, phone number and website, readable from across the road. You are parked in front of prospects all day.

Advertise the add-ons

Gutter clearing, conservatory roofs, solar panel cleaning and pressure washing are one-off jobs with a higher price. They also bring in new customers who then join the round.

Go after commercial work

Shops, offices, schools, care homes and pubs need regular cleaning. Walk in and ask who arranges it, or email the manager with your insurance details and a price.

When to pay for ads

Paid adverts make sense once the free methods are in place.

  • Google Search ads for "window cleaner [town]" in the postcodes you want to fill. Keep the area tight, because each clean has a modest value.
  • Facebook ads to homeowners on specific estates when opening a new area.

Window cleaning is not on Google's UK Local Services Ads list as far as we could see, so Search ads are the paid option on Google.

Work out what a customer is worth

A customer cleaned every four weeks for several years is worth far more than the first clean. Use that figure when deciding what you can pay to win one.

Common questions

How do I get my first customers? Canvass the streets you want, post cards and join the local Facebook group.

Should I buy a round? Buying a round gives instant income. Check how long the customers have been on it and whether the seller will introduce you.
