Meta Instant Forms vs Landing Pages: Which Generates Better Qualified Leads for UK Service Businesses?

Instant forms win on volume and cost per lead; landing pages usually win on intent. Here is how to choose, how to test, and how to judge the result.

Person filling in a form on a phone

Every Facebook or Instagram lead campaign starts with the same choice: keep people inside the app with an instant form, or send them to a page on your website. The instant form almost always wins on cost per lead. The landing page often wins on the number that actually matters, the cost of a booked job. Which one wins for you depends on what you sell and how you follow up.

What the numbers say

WordStream's 2025 Facebook benchmarks, based on 726 US lead campaigns, put the median conversion rate for lead campaigns at 7.72% and the cost per lead at $27.66. For landing pages generally, Unbounce's 2024 benchmark of over 41,000 pages found a median conversion rate of 6.6%, with 83% of visits on mobile. Both figures mix many industries, but they show the shape of the trade-off: forms convert more of the people who see them, pages filter more of them out.

Why instant forms produce weaker leads

  • Pre-filled details. Name, email and phone come from the profile, sometimes an old number or an email nobody checks.
  • No information before committing. People submit before they know your prices, area or process.
  • Accidental and curious submissions. Two taps from an ad they half-read.
  • Weak memory of the brand. They never visited your site, so when you call, they may not remember you.

You can reduce these problems with the "Higher intent" form type, which adds a review screen, and with qualifying and conditional questions. That narrows the gap without leaving the app.

Why landing pages produce stronger leads

  • The visitor sees proof first: real photos, reviews, prices or "from" prices and the areas you cover.
  • Self-selection: people who do not like the price or the look leave before submitting.
  • Brand recall: they have seen your name, logo and van, so they answer when you call.
  • Better retargeting: page visitors can be retargeted even if they do not convert.

Making each one work better

Instant form checklist

  • Higher intent form type.
  • Two to four multiple-choice questions: postcode, job type, timescale, budget band.
  • Conditional logic to close the form for out-of-area or below-minimum answers.
  • An intro that sets expectations: price range and "we will call within two hours".
  • Instant delivery to your phone or CRM, not a manual download.

Landing page checklist

  • Loads fast on a phone; headline matches the ad.
  • Real photos of your work, with the town named.
  • Prices or "from" prices, and the areas you cover.
  • A short form near the top, and a tap-to-call button.
  • Meta pixel plus Conversions API, so conversions are counted even when browser tracking is blocked.

How to test fairly

  1. Use the same audience, creative and budget for both versions, ideally with Meta's A/B test tool.
  2. Run for at least three to four weeks, or until each side has 30 or more leads.
  3. Follow up both sets of leads in exactly the same way.
  4. Compare booking rate and cost per booked job, not cost per lead.

The hybrid approach

Many accounts end up using both: instant forms for prospecting with Higher intent and qualifying questions, and landing pages for retargeting people who watched a video or engaged with a post. Whatever the mix, send booked-job data back to Meta through the Conversions API so each campaign learns from customers, not form-fills.

Qualifying questions that work, by trade

TradeQuestion 1Question 2Question 3
SolarDo you own the property? (Yes / No / Rented)Roof type (Pitched / Flat / Not sure)Monthly electricity bill band
LandscapingProject type (Patio / Turf / Full redesign / Fencing)Budget band (Under £3k / £3k to £8k / £8k+)When do you want it done?
DrivewaysDriveway size (1 car / 2 cars / 3+)Surface wanted (Block / Resin / Tarmac / Not sure)Postcode
Window cleaningProperty type (Terraced / Semi / Detached / Commercial)How often? (4 weekly / 8 weekly / One-off)Postcode
Kitchens and bathroomsRoomBudget bandTimescale (Within 3 months / 3 to 6 / Just researching)

Use conditional logic on the questions that rule people out. For solar, a renter can be sent to a polite closing message instead of being submitted as a lead. For driveways, a postcode outside your area can end the form.

Following up instant form leads

Instant form leads need faster, warmer follow-up than website leads, because many people barely remember submitting. A simple sequence:

  1. Within 5 minutes: automatic text: "Hi Sarah, it's Mark from Smith Landscapes. Thanks for asking about a patio. I'll call you shortly from this number."
  2. Within the hour: phone call. Open with what they asked for and where they live, so they place you instantly.
  3. Same day if no answer: second call and a short email with two photos of similar work.
  4. Day 2: third attempt at a different time of day.
  5. Day 5: final message offering a slot for a survey or quote.

Record every attempt. If your booking rate on instant forms is far below your website leads, check follow-up first before blaming the form.

Tracking and data differences

  • Instant form leads live in Meta until you sync them. Connect forms to your CRM or email directly; downloading a CSV once a week loses most of the value of a fast follow-up.
  • Landing page conversions depend on the pixel and Conversions API. Browser tracking alone misses some conversions when cookies are blocked, so set up the Conversions API alongside the pixel.
  • Both can feed lead quality back to Meta once your CRM stages are connected, so the platform learns which leads booked.
  • Privacy: instant forms must link to your privacy policy. Explain how you will contact people and how long you keep their details.

A note on cost per lead targets

If you switch from instant forms to a landing page, warn whoever signs off the budget: cost per lead will almost certainly rise, often by 50 to 150%. That is expected. Set the target on cost per booked job before the test starts, so the decision is made on the number that matters.
